Eid Al Wahda: meaning and context

Eid Al Wahda (عيد الوحدة — Unity Day) is Morocco's new national holiday celebrated every year on October 31. It was established by royal decree on November 4, 2025, following the adoption of UN Security Council resolution 2756 on the Moroccan Sahara issue.

Why October 31?

October 31, 2025 marks the adoption by the UN Security Council of resolution 2756, which strengthened international support for Morocco's autonomy initiative for the Sahara. King Mohammed VI chose this symbolic date to establish the new national holiday of unity and territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

Impact on Morocco's public holiday calendar

With the addition of Eid Al Wahda, Morocco now has 17 official public holidays in 2026 (up from 16 in previous years), making it one of the countries with the most public holidays in North Africa.
